Our CommunityFlorence, Oregon is a small town with all the amenities. It is located at the mouth of the Siuslaw River where it empties into the Pacific Ocean. A town of about 9,000 residents many of whom are retired, offers activities for all. The Florence Chamber of Commerce http://www.florencechamber.com offers tips for visiting the National Sand Dunes Recreational Area, shopping and dining in historic old town, exploring Florence history at the Historical Museum, beach walking or combing and many other things to do locally.
Each year there are many events that appeal to locals and tourists alike. A sampling: The Winter Folk Festival, Chowder Brews and Blues; Rhododendron Days including the grand floral Rhododendron parade, an all community Beach walk and the Heceta Head Coastal Conference. Florence is also an actively caring community with an effective Food Share Program http://www.florencefoodshare.org , a new Senior Center that serves lunch, for a small fee, 2 days a week and also offers many other activities. A newly remodeled,well-stocked library with computers for general use, and a full-service Medical Facility with a a twenty-one bed acute care facility fully accredited by The Joint Commission, with Critical Access and Level IV Trauma designation. www.peacehealth.org/siuslaw .
